The Classical Archives Multi-Format Queuing Player is a new piece of software
(in the form of a web page - not a downloaded application) which can better manage the playing of all our audio files.
This player has many functions:
QUEUING - This player allows you to select additional files while listening to another.
These will be played after the first file ends. Note that our subscribers can
queue as many files as their memory allows, whereas non-subscribers can
only queue a total of two files at the same time.
MULTI-FORMAT - This player can play all the different formats supported by
the Archives: MIDI, Windows Media (WMA/WMV/ASF/WAX/WVX/ASX), and MP3 files.
RANDOM FILE - If you click on the unicorn, the player will select a MIDI file
at random from the Archives and place it in the queue.
QUEUE MANAGEMENT - If you click on one of the files in the queue (playlist window),
you will open a menu which allows you to replay a file, move a file up, or down, or delete it from the
queue.
SAVE TO DISK - The submenu displayed when you click on a file in the queue allows
you to save a file to your PC (as long as the file is not a streaming file.)
FILE IDENTIFICATION - If you play a random file (see above) you may want to know
its composer, etc. You can do this by clicking on the file in the queue list and
then click on Find File in the Archives. This will use our keyword search engine
and locate the file in its context in the Archives so you see who composed it, its
title, and who contributed it.
USER OPTIONS - The player is completely under your control. You can even tell the
player not to open files in one (or all) of the supported formats (see above.)
In which case, the deselected formats will be handled by your default player.
You can also disable queuing if you wish - or even this entire player!
It is VERY IMPORTANT for you to understand that this player does NOT actually generate
the sounds coming from your speakers. All sounds are still generated by your sound card
or by your external synthesizer. The player simply passes the file to play to the
appropriate hardware/software that is indicated by your selection in your Window's Control
Panel or to the embedded Windows Media Player plugin (which is used by this player.)
So the quality of the sounds (or lack thereof) is completely outside the control
of the player.
A note about cookies. This player does use a number of cookies to operate. For example
your queue (playlist) is stored in a cookie on your computer. So are the various settings
that you select. Remember that these cookies are inoffensive little text files that only the
player can read. It is not used by anyone else. In fact even we do not read these cookies.
They are only used by the player to function properly. They are not used to keep
track of what you play or anything else of that sort. For more details on cookies,
please read this.
You may disable the player by going to your user
settings
page and selecting the option to disable the player.
You may also disable the player from inside the player, itself. Simply
click the "Setup" button and selecting the option to disable the player. Once disabled,
you may re-enable it by going to your user
settings
page.
If your browser or platform is not currently supported, all selected files will be
automatically directed to your default player.
You may also manually disable the queuing player, if, for example, you'd prefer to
use your default player, by going to your user
settings
page, and selecting the option to disable.
If you'd like to play a particular music type (e.g., MIDI) through your default
player (e.g., MidiGate), you can do so by going to your user
settings
page, and unchecking "Midi" from the list of supported music types.
You can also modify the supported music types from inside the player, itself. Simply
click the "Setup" button and selecting "Change support for particular music types".
If you are using an external sound source (e.g., external MIDI synthesizer) the volume controls will not and cannot work.
You will not be able to adjust the volume using the player's built-in controls.
You'll need to control the volume using the external synth controls.
Clicking any file in the playlist and selecting "replay" from the menu will
always count against your daily file allowances, even if you've already downloaded
the file.
Files in the playlist queue that haven't been downloaded yet (identifiable by their
yellow color), may be modified, moved, or deleted freely, without penalty.
Every time you click a file in the playlist and choose the "save to disk" option from
the menu, the request will count against your daily file allowances, even if you've
already downloaded or played the file, or choose to terminate the download before it
has completed.
When playing ASX playlists containing multiple WMA files, you may freely navigate back
and forth between the various entries (using the back and forward buttons). It will
only count as one download (regardless of how may individual entries it contains).
The only time it will count against your daily allowance is if you click the back
button, while listening to the very first entry. This action will re-request the entire
ASX file from the server, and count as another download.
When using our CMA queuing player, if you click on a web link inside an email (for example) the web page may mistakenly open inside the CMA queuing player's window. If you wish to open these links into separate windows:
Open your Internet Explorer 6 browser.
Click Tools, then Internet Options..., then Advanced.
Scroll down and UN-check the option that says Reuse windows for launching shortcuts.
Click OK twice, to return to the main window.
This will instruct your computer to always opened these links in separate windows.
You may prefer to use MidiGate (instead of the new Classical Archives Player) to listen to MIDI files.
Go to the User Settings Page
and uncheck the box next to MIDI and click on the Set the Player Options button.
This will tell the Classical Archives Player to avoid playing all MIDI files - so that
your chosen MIDI player (e.g., MidiGate) can play it.
