Jenny Zaharieva-Maleeva

Born in Sofia, Ms. Zaharieva-Maleeva graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where she studied with Professors V.Gornostayeva and T.Nikolaeva. She pursued further studies in Paris with the renowned pianist and pedagogue, Pierre Sancan.

Zaharieva-Maleeva has won awards at several international piano competitions, including the Robert Schumann in Zwikau (Germany), the Ninth International Youth Festival in Sofia, and the Marguerite Long in Paris.

She has performed throughout Europe, the Far East, and Africa as recitalist and soloist with such orchestras as the Residentie Orchestra and the Amsterdam Philharmonic and Sinfonietta (Netherlands); and the Moscow, Sofia, and Liège Philharmonics. An active chamber musician, Zaharieva-Maleeva frequently collaborates with other internationally acclaimed artists both in her native Bulgaria and abroad.

The artist gave the European premiere of Lalo Schifrin's "Concerto of the Americas" with the composer conducting. The Concerto was part of the Piano Project at the Steinway Foundation, and was dedicated to the Quincentenary of the discovery of America.

Zaharieva-Maleeva is a professor at the Music Academy in Sofia, and has given master classes in Brussels, Venice, New York, Athens, Rotterdam, and at the Conservatoire National in Paris. She records for the Empire Master Sound (Brussels), AVM Classics (London), Veton (Rotterdam), and Balkanton (Sofia) labels.
