Gubernatorsky Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments
|
The Gubernatorsky Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments, based in Cherepovets, Russia, was founded in 1993 by Galina Perevoznikova, with the goal of producing high-quality performances utilizing Russian folk instruments. The ensemble (originally called the Cherepovets Municipal Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments) focuses on traditional and contemporary works by both Russian and foreign composers. Indeed, several composers have written works explicitly for the orchestra, including A.Rogachev (Concerto for Balalaika and Folk Orchestra), Alexei Larin (Double Concerto and From Japanese Folk Tales - featured here at the Classical Archives), and M.Bronner (Concerto for Domra and Folk Orchestra 'Pro et contra'). Among the outstanding soloists who perform regularly with the orchestra include domra player Mikhail Gorobtsov and balalaika player Andrei Gorbachev - both of whom are featured with the orchestra and as soloists here at the Classical Archives. The orchestra performs regularly throughout Moscow and St. Petersburg and elsewhere around Russia.
Ms. Perevoznikova is a graduate of the Leningrad State Conservatory, where she studied conducting with Professor I.A.Musin. She has become celebrated for her unique conducting style, combining technique with a passionate devotion to the music. Beyond her work with the Gubernatorsky Orchestra, she has conducted orchestras in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula, Barnaul, and other towns in Russia.
